Preschool Readiness and Eligibility
Denver Public Schools Early Childhood Education (ECE) is a tuition-based preschool program for 4-year-olds (select sites serve 3 year olds). Children must be 4 years old on or before October 1st of the year of enrollment to attend ECE. Select programs are available for 3 year olds. Three year olds must be 3 on or before October 1st of the year of enrollment. Full and partial scholarships are available and all children regardless of race, national origin, or gender are eligible to attend.
See the ECE application page for specific registration requirements. Go to the Tuition & Scholarships page to see the tuition schedule. Eligibility for partial-pay or free tuition is based on family income. An Income Chart is provided within the application from the school.
The district offers both full and half-day programs for 4 year olds. A full-day program offers several advantages over half-day programs, but may not be appropriate for every child. Full day students will gain:
- More opportunities to develop their oral language skills, a major emphasis of the DPS program
- More small group instruction time each day
- Twice the indoor and outdoor high-level play opportunities
- Readiness for the rigors of a full-length school day
If your child is eligible for preschool, find a program and submit an application!
