Kindergarten Program DescriptionKindergarten Offerings Within Denver Public Schools Traditional Half-Day Kindergarten Programs All DPS elementary schools offer a half-day kindergarten program of instruction to children in Denver. The Board of Education approved curriculum is presented during a 2 hour and 40 minute daily session. These sessions are traditionally offered either in a morning or an afternoon session. Extended-Day Offerings An extended-day program of instruction within DPS provides the Board of Education approved curriculum during the morning session of instruction. The afternoon portion of the kindergarten day is utilized to provide enrichment and extension activities and individualized instruction that supports the morning program. Parents should contact their neighborhood school to determine which of the following offerings are available at their school. Mill Levy Funded Kindergarten For 2007-2008, eighty-five (85) district and charter schools provide an extended-day kindergarten program using dollars approved by the voters in 2003. These classes are provided by licensed teachers and are supported by trained paraprofessionals. Extended-Day Tuition-Based Kindergarten In district extended-day tuition-based kindergartens the afternoon session of the kindergarten day is funded by monthly parental fees. For information on the extended-day tuition-based kindergarten program, please contact the Early Education Department. For questions regarding tuition or payments, please contact Margaret DiUbaldo, in General Accounting at (303) 764-3698. Colorado Preschool Program Extended-Day Kindergarten For 2007-2008 thirty-eight (38) district schools offer an extended-day kindergarten program utilizing dollars provided by the Colorado Preschool and Kindergarten Program (CPKP). Specific qualifying factors for children and class size requirements are mandated by law. Title I Funded Extended-Day Kindergarten Some district schools choose to offer an extended-day kindergarten program utilizing federal Title I dollars. Children who attend these classrooms must reside in the school's attendance area or reside in another Title I school attendance area.
